The Sappada Carnival – Plodar Vosenòcht

It takes place during the three Sundays preceding Lent, each dedicated to a category of Sappada residents: farmers (Paurn), the poor (Pettlar) and the gentry (Hearn). On these Sundays they are mocked by masks representing them in a playful manner.
All parades are accompanied by the Rollate, the mask that is also the symbol of Sappada. It is a kind of large bear with a wooden mask and two large cowbells that make it impossible to ignore. The Rollate is much loved by children who challenge it to a chase.
